Fire Tunes Of The Day Featuring Burna Boy, Migos, Octavian, Mist, SiR & One Acen

Massive apologies for not posting any bumper tunes over the past week, so I’m here to make it up to everyone by dropping SEVEN heaters for your listening pleasure. Let’s get into it

Burna Boy – Ph City Vibrations

Burna Boy finally released his long-awaited 3rd studio album this past Friday Outside via Atlantic Records. Since releasing his debut studio album L.I.F.E in 2013, which included hit records like Like To Party & Tonight, Burna has seen his star continually rise year on year with each release as either the lead or featured artist. He followed his debut album release with 2015’s On A Spaceship, which included the timeless banger Soke & one of my personal faves Rizzla. The new album Outside showcases all the elements of Burna’s artistry in his best form & shows why he’s one of the go-to afrobeat superstars. The album features an impressive arrray of songs, which should cross-over well in the UK market but also contains records that are true to his PH roots like my favourite afrobeat song of all time Rock Your Bodywhich forms part of the 12-track album. Lily Allen & J Hus (on the previously featured Sekkle Down)  also serve as the only features on the LP. My favourite tune barring Rock Your Body has to be Ph City Vibrations. It’s so good that I’m even intrigued & more receptive to the idea of visiting the city one day. Check out the Outside album here & peep the fire tune below

Migos – Walk It Talk It Ft. Drake / White Sand Ft. Travis Scott, Big Sean & Ty Dolla $ign

Migos dropped the long-awaited sequel to their Grammy-nominated & platinum-selling 2nd studio album Culture this past Friday. The aptly titled Culture II album features an incredible 24 songs & feels like a double LP in all honesty. I think it’s a good album but not at the same level sonically as the prequel. That being said, the album is still littered with a number of gems, as you’d expect based on the law of percentages; 11 by my count. I settled on featuring two songs on the tape cause I couldn’t decide between them. Walk It Talk It is a braggadocious nod to taking action over saying shit, which we can all relate to & features a 16 by the 6 god, Drizzy. The 2nd featured tune is the Wheezy-produced banger White Sand. The record features Travis Scott, Big Sean & Ty Dolla $ign, who are all favourites of mine & the resulting tune is a hazy banger with a brilliant hook & fire verses to match from all 3 of them. Check out Culture II here and sample the featured tunes below

Octavian – 100 Degrees Ft. Sam Wise

Rave of the moment Octavian dropped his second official single via Drilla Records on Friday. The French-born & South London raised MC made a big impression on the rap world at the back end of 2017 with his excellent single Party Here, which casted the spotlight on him as an MC to look out for & culminated in a feature spot on Drizzy’s OVO Sound Radio which took the hype level surrounding the MC to another notch. At this point in time, Octavian looks like a great hope for the UK rap scene and I can only hope that he makes good on all this early promise! For now, he’s shooting 2/2 from the field so enjoy the sophomore single featuring Sam Wise below

Mist – Game Changer

Birmingham MC Mist dropped his first single in over 10 months titled Game Changer this past Friday. Mist has emerged as one of my favourite MC’s on the UK scene over the past 15 months or so. His style is unique & the chemistry he’s got with producer Steel Banglez is undeniable. The record serves as the first single off his soon-to-be-released Diamond In The Dirt EP. Look out for the tape’s release date & peep the crisp visuals below

SiR – War

TDE signee SiR released his first official project through the legendary label November just under two weeks ago & it’s a beautiful body of work to say the least. The 11-track LP is a great intro into one of the newer members of the label alongside Lance Skiiwalker. I personally really enjoyed the tape & it served as my first real sample of the Inglewood native’s music. The featured record below War is my fave from the tape & I’ll definitely be keeping tab on all his future releases! Peep the tune below

One Acen – Vice Versa Ft. WSTRN

UK rapper One Acen came through with a brand new fire tune last week Friday titled Vice Versa. The rapper gained mainstream notoriety with last year’s Verified. Vice Versa is an impressive party record featuring the resurgent group WSTRN, who seem to be slowly building their profile back up after a few legal mishaps involving a group member last year.  In layman’s terms, this is a banger & I expect this to gain traction in the clubs over the coming months. Enjoy the fire tune below

Fire Tunes Of The Day Featuring Odunsi, Burna Boy, J Hus, Wande Coal, Lily Allen & Giggs

With my current crazy schedule, I’ve resorted to dropping multiple bangers with each post more frequently &  today’s no exception. I’m off to Nigeria so I’ve found myself vibing to afrobeats more & more in preparation as I do every year. So without any further ado, let’s get into today’s selections

Odunsi – In The Morning

Rising superstar & alternative afrobeat (I just coined that) connoiseur Odunsi released In The Morning this past Friday & it’s such a banger of a tune. After rising to prominence earlier this year with Desire & his collaborative War EP with Nonso Amadi, the Nigerian native has definitely carved his own special lane in the afrobeats industry & he will be around for a very very long time. I’m excited to see what he drops next following this release cause it’s one hell of a song & his track record so far has been damn near impeccable. Listen to the fire tune below

Burna Boy – Sekkle Down Ft. J Hus

Burna Boy premiered his latest single Sekkle Down off his upcoming Outside mixtape on Beats 1 yesterday. The record features UK superstar J Hus & was produced by Jae 5, who shot to prominence with his work on J Hus’s debut album Common Sense earlier this year. The song’s also the second high-profile collab between the 2 artists following Good Time & is a heater to say the least. Burna Boy’s easily one of my favourite artists out & Rock Your Body, which dropped earlier this year might just be my favourite afrobeat song of all time, it’s honestly that good! Anyway, enjoy the fire tune below in the meantime, while we wait for the mixtape to drop

Wande Coal – Tur-Key Nla

Wande Coal’s back again with an afrobeat heater just in time for Christmas in Lagos. After tensioning the clubs last year with IskabaI fully expect this new banger to damage on the dancefloor. Listen to the Dapiano produced record below

Lily Allen – Trigger Bang Ft. Giggs

Lily Allen released her first single in 3 years earlier today & I’m so happy about that. The record features the Hollow man himself Giggs, who came through with a fire 16 to start the record off. I’ve been a big fan of her music ever since I saw her play at Wireless in 2010, just before Jay-Z’s headlining set & it’s refreshing to hear new music from her. I’ll definitely be looking out for Lily’s next moves following the release but enjoy the banger of a tune in the meantime below

Fire Tunes Of The Day: Burna Boy – Deja Vu x Ajebutter 22 – Wayward x Dice Ailes – Otedola

Today’s FTOD selections consist of 3 afrobeat bangers I’ve recently stumbled across, which are all fire & deserve to be highlighted. So without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Burna Boy – Deja Vu

Oluwaburna as he’s affectionately known released two singles earlier today titled Gba & today’s featured tune Deja Vu. Both songs serve as his first solo releases since dropping the incredible Rock Your Bodywhich might just be my favourite afrobeat song of all time (hot take alert!). Afrobeat connoisseurs need no introduction to his music as he’s consistently supplied hits for our ears over the past 5 years & is considered to be a titan in the industry. Burna has had a stellar 2017 as he’s supplied fire feature verses on J Hus’s Good Time, Rita Ora’s Your Song Remix & Mabel’s Finders Keepers Remix to name a few. He also has uncredited vocals on Drake’s Get It Together off his More Life playlist, which dropped in March this year. Deja Vu is yet another outstanding track by the Port-Harcourt native & I’m hoping that an album from the superstar drops sometime in the near future. Enjoy the fire tune below.

Ajebutter 22 – Wayward

Afrobeat artist Ajebutter 22 finally announced the release of his sophomore studio album What Happens In Lagos earlier today. The album drops on November 24th & I’m anticipating the project’s production to be dominated by Studio Magic as expected. After dropping the infectious Ghana Bounce earlier this year, he let go of the album’s second single Wayward last week & it’s one hell of a tune as expected. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Ajebutter continues to carve out his own unique lane within the afrobeats genre & his style is unmistakably his own. Enjoy the fire tune below & make sure you check out 22’s WHIL album when it drops in just over a fortnight.

Dice Ailes – Otedola

I’m going to get straight to the point with this final one! I found out about Dice Ailes through a What’s App music group that I’m a part of; shoutout to my g Lolu for the plug. Turns out that he’s signed to Chocolate City, which has been one of the most influential Nigerian labels of the past decade. The beauty of this song lies in the hook & it’s one hell of a catchy one.

“Otedola with the money….Jim Iyke with the love….Okocha with the balling…Maggi with the sauce”

Every Nigerian should get the message immediately as he celebrates some of our nation’s finest citizens from Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola to football god Jay-Jay Okocha. Peep the fire tune below
