Fire Tune Of The Day: Kelela – Blue Light

DC native Kelela supplies today’s Fire Tune Of The Day with Blue Light taken off her long overdue debut studio album Take Me Apart which dropped this past Friday. After announcing its release in July, she dropped the infectious album lead single LMK in August, which set the tone for the album’s sound and it comes around full circle once you take in the album. Make no mistake about it, Kelela’s an incredible artist & she’s delivered an incredible body of work which showcases all elements of both her vocal and songwriting ability. Read her recently released FADER cover story here & listen to the FTOD below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Dave – Question Time

Wow! Santan fucking Dave! What a talent & artist. The 19 year old Streatham rapper announced his Game Over EP earlier today & duly followed it up with the release of Question Time. It’s an introspective record that sees Dave speak on the country’s current political climate & issues ranging from Brexit to the Grenfell Disaster plus much more in such a vivid and poignant manner on wax . He might be the most talented & versatile teenage rapper on the planet! Pretty much the music world’s own Kylian Mbappe. After assisting Giggs on the standout Perligo off the recently released Wamp 2 Dem mixtape, he totally switched it up and dropped this single, which showcases his versatility & undeniable talent. Question Time was produced by Fraser T. Smith & the striking music video was produced by Stephanie Paeplow in collaboration with Dirtywork London. Listen to the FTOD below & make sure you check out the Game Over EP on November 3rd.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Giggs – Peligro Ft. Dave

UK national hero Giggs finally dropped his long awaited Wamp 2 Dem Mixtape yesterday & it’s fucking lit! I’m on my way to a turn up function so I’m keeping this brief! Wamp 2 Dem is amazing & everyone should check it out. It’s fire from top to bottom but Peligro’s my standout so far. Dave went off & provided one of my fave 16s of the year! Listen to the fire tune below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Belly Squad – Deceitful

London trio Belly Squad provide today’s Fire Tune Of The Day. The group blew up off their hit single Banana, which was released in 2015 and the official remix featuring Abra Cadabra, Young T, Bugsey, Timbo & Showkey gave the song an extended lease of life, when it was released at the back end of last year. They’ve kept the momentum up this year with the release of Lifestyle in August & have now followed this up with Deceitful. Now, this right here is a banger in every sense. Find out for yourself below

Fire Tune Of The Day: AJ Tracey – Quaterback (Secure The Bag!)

AJ Tracey’s hotly anticipated Secure The Bag EP finally arrives this Friday! After announcing its release & dropping Blacked Out in August, the Ladbroke Grove rapper premiered the EP’s 2nd single Quaterback yesterday. Man, my excitement for Friday’s already at fever pitch levels cause both him & Giggs are dropping projects! AJ is definitely in his sole lane right now musically & the man can do no wrong on wax in my eyes (shame he supports Tottenham). Listen to the banging single below & make sure you check out the EP this Friday.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Alina Baraz – Buzzin

Today’s FTOD is by Alina Baraz. The Ohio native dropped off two singles this past Friday, Lavender and Velvet & today’s featured tune Buzzin. She’s well known for her 2014 single  Fantasy off her collaborative Urban Flora EP with Danish producer Galimatias, which is still one of the most beautiful compositions I’ve ever heard on wax. There’s been no indication of this being part of an album rollout but I expect an announcement or album release to happen before 2017’s over. Listen to the fire tune below

Fire Tunes Of The Day Featuring Tory Lanez, J Balvin & Beyonce, Krept & Konan + Banks

New music Friday definitely served up a treat this past Friday. I intended to post all featured tunes below individually but since I didn’t get round to posting any of them, here’s a full serving for your ears! I’ve also updated the FTOD playlists with the below tunes, which you can find and follow here (Apple Music) or here (Spotify).

Tory Lanez – Skrt Skrt

I know Tory Lanez was featured in my last post but he proved my inhibitions right by dropping another brand new single the very next day (this past Friday) titled Skrt Skrt. The sexy Caribbean-influenced single will definitely keep the ladies happy & adds to Tory’s growing catalogue of hits, which will only further raise expectations for his sophomore album. The Canadian native also announced that he’ll be releasing his next single Real Thing featuring Future this Friday, which I’m super excited about. Peep the absolutely fire tune below

Krept & Konan – For Me

Krept & Konan came back with a bang this past Friday with the release of two singles Wo Wo Wo & For Me which will feature on their upcoming mixtapes 7 Days & 7 Nights respectively. Both mixtapes drop in just over 2 weeks on October 20th & I am excited to say the least. Krept & Konan are cult heros in the UK rap game & have been moving the culture from time with classics like Don’t Waste My Time & Freak Of The Week which peaked at no.9 on the Official Top 40 back in 2015. The new singles serve as the duo’s first set of official releases via Virgin EMI since the release of their no.2 album The Long Way HomeHowever, the duo have kept their core fanbase happy with street acclaimed releases such as Last Night In Lagos & Last Night In LA plus stellar features on Abra Cadabra’s Robbery Remix to name a few.  For Me is my favourite of the new singles released & I expect it to ring off in the clubs over the coming months. Listen below & be sure to check out both mixtapes on the 20th

J Balvin & Willy Willian – Mi Gente Ft. Beyoncé

Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin & Willy Willian’s latest single Mi Gente has already enjoyed massive global success since it’s release in June peaking at no.19 on the Billboard 100, no.2 on the US Latin charts and no.1 in Colombia. However, the Queen Bee herself Beyoncé surprisingly hopped on the official remix & the resulting tune is glorious. Without losing any of the original song’s elements, Bey added a seductive verse while contributing to the remix’s hook. Listen to the anthem below

BANKS – Underdog

One of my favourite artists out BANKS, also surprisingly released a new single Underdog this past Friday & the song might be one of her finest releases yet; it’s really that good. It’s been just over a year since the California native released her successful sophomore album The Altarwhich spawned records such as Fuck With Myself & Mind GamesHer 2014 debut album Goddess brought her international fame & BANKS has managed to elevate her sound while maintaining its distinctness. This latest single suggests that she’s on the cusp of getting even better & delivering her finest work yet, which would hopefully be in the form of her 3rd album. Listen to the stellar song below
