Fire Tune Of The Day: Tory Lanez – Shooters

Canadian rapper/singer Tory Lanez serves up today’s FTOD with the first single Shooters off his forthcoming untitled sophomore albumTory mentioned that he’d finished recording the album in August & stayed true to his promise of releasing the first single in September. The record was produced by C-Sick, who provided the perfect platform for Lanez to flex about his lifestyle on the record. Look out for another single from Tory Lanez featuring Future, which he teased recently  & the album announcement. I’m excited to see what the next phase of his career brings but enjoy the fire tune in the meantime below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Wretch 32 – Tell Me Ft. Kojo Funds & Jahlani

Premier UK rapper Wretch 32 dropped off the 2nd single off his soon to be released 4th studio album FR32 titled Tell Me. The song features rave-of-the-month Kojo Funds, who looks like he can do no wrong in the studio at this point & Jahlani. Wretch has been revered as one of the UK’s best MCs; if not the best for well over a decade and his star’s showing no signs of waning anytime soon. I’m intrigued to find out what the album sounds like cohesively as we know Wretch usually provides both introspective songs & club-ready bangers but we’ve only heard the turn up tunes so far! (both featuring Kojo Funds). At this point in Mr. 32’s career, his legacy & reputation in the UK music scene is cemented & I expect him to deliver yet another stellar body of work come October 13. Fire Tune Of The Day: Rapsody – Power Ft. Kendrick Lamar & Lance Skiiiwalker

Today’s FTOD is by North Carolina rapper Rapsody. She released her sophomore album Laila’s Wisdom via Jamla Records & Roc Nation this past Friday to rave reviews so far. The rapper’s especially well known for her verse on Kendrick’s Complexion (A Zulu Love) off To Pimp A Butterfly & she’s generally revered as a top notch lyrical MC. I’m a big fan of the album & Power featuring TDE’s Kendrick Lamar & Lance Skiiiwalker is the current standout for me personally. Listen to the album here & check out the fire tune below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Sneakbo – Active Ft. Giggs

Today’s FTOD is in celebration of FIFA release day, which is tomorrow (basically midnight!). Sneakbo & man of the moment Giggs joined forces on this absolute banger of a tune. The video was released two days ago & the soundtrack will be featured on FIFA 18, which is another W for grime in my opinion. Yes, rap & grime songs have previously appeared on the game, but it just feels slightly more special this time. It’s safe to say Sneakbo & Giggs especially, blacked out on this riddim laid down by UK super producer The Fanatix. As at today, I would rank Giggs no.1 on any UK top MCs list without batting an eyelid. The man is simply on fire. Peep the fire tune below & I’ll add the song to both playlists once it’s officially released.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Naeto C – Kill’N Me Softly Ft. Sarkodie

After taking an extended break from the music scene, Naeto C’s back with an infectious new single Kill’N Me Softly, which dropped yesterday. The record features Sarkodie, who delivered yet another stellar 16 and super producer Masterkraft worked wonders on the beat as we’ve come to expect. It’s refreshing to see the White Kaftan Gang boss back with new music as he’s responsible for some of Nigerian rap music’s biggest hits over the years such as Kini Big Deal & Ten Over Ten. It’s such a groovy song & maybe Super C’s prepping to drop an album later this year or next year but only time will tell. In the meantime, enjoy the FTOD below

Fire Tune Of The Day : Jhene Aiko – Psilocybin (Love In Full Effect) [feat. Dr. Chill]

Jhene Aiko surprisingly released her 2nd solo album & 3rd overall album Trip today and I’ve just given the 22 track LP a first listen. It’s immediately obvious that the recording process & the album itself served as therapy for Jhene regarding her brother Miyagi’s death from cancer in 2012. It’s an unusually long album but it’s understandable in this particular situation. This album was for Jhene Aiko, in a similar vein to how J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only was an album for him rather than the fans, which is perfectly okay and part of any artist’s journey in my opinion. In a nutshell, Jhene needed to make this album for herself in order to heal & grow as an artist. It’s a mellow album, which requires the listener’s full attention in order to enjoy &  understand the record properly in my opinion. That being said, it’s an upgrade on 2014’s Souled Out, which underwhelmed most fans considering the success of both 2011’s Sailing Soul(s) and 2013’s Sail Out. I’m a fan of TRIP & I expect it to grow on me after a few more listens, however Psilocybin is an immediate favourite & one hell of a song, which has gone straight into the upper echelons of my personal playlistListen to the album here & check out the FTOD below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Half-A-Mil – The Hills Ft. Quentin Miller

Today’s FTOD is by the recently formed group Half-A-Mil, which consists of super producer Hit Boy & rapper Dom Kennedy. Hit Boy’s probably best known for producing Jay & Ye’s Niggas In Paris, Clique & Drizzy’s Trophies to name a few. The super producer formed his own label HS87 shortly after GOOD Music’s Cruel Summer dropped in September 2012. Dom Kennedy on the other hand has cultivated a strong & loyal fanbase especially off the back of  2012’s The Yellow Album & 2013’s Get Home Safely album.  Future solo LPs from Dom have failed to resonate with fans on the same level as the previously mentioned two but there’s no denying his talent & unique take on West Coast music. The project has culminated in 3 EP releases over the past year. The Hills was recently released as part of the 3rd EP released, which can be streamed in its entirety here. The song features Quentin Miller who was caught up in the ghostwriting scandal perpetuated by ‘you know who’ in summer ’15 and it’s the first time I’ve heard him truly flourish on a record. In a nutshell, this is a slept on banger, which had to be featured here. Listen to the heater below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Jordan Rakei – Goodbyes

Today’s FTOD is by 25 year-old multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Jordan Rakei. I first came across the New-Zealand born artist in 2013 while living in Australia & it’s incredible to see the progression he has made since then. He moved down to London shortly after releasing his Groove Curse EP in 2014 due to the traction the project got both in Europe & Stateside. He followed that up by endlessly collaborating with fellow multi-talented instrumentalist & vocalist Tom Misch, while also appearing on Masterpiece off Disclosure’s sophomore album Caracal in 2015. He followed that up with the release of his debut album Cloak last year, which culminated in him signing to Ninja Tune Records & he’ll be releasing his sophomore album Wallflower through them this Friday.  Goodbyes is the 3rd single released so far off the forthcoming LP & it’s my favourite by a decent stretch. It’s a beautiful, mellow & stripped down song, which is perfect for a chilled out Sunday. I’m eager to see how the single fits in with the album sonically once it’s released but in the meantime, enjoy the FTOD below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Elli Ingram – Getaway

Today’s FTOD is Getaway by Brighton-born singer Elli Ingram. I only discovered her music recently but boy am I glad I did! She released her debut album Love You Really via Island Records this Friday and it definitely matched the expectations I had for it both in terms of songwriting & her vocal performance. She’s a breath of fresh air & I expect her to be a fixture in the industry for a long while. Listen to the album here & check out one of the standout tracks Getaway below

Fire Tune Of The Day: NAO – Nostalgia

Today’s FTOD is by one of my favourite R&B/Soul singers out; NAO. The East London native finally released her hugely anticipated comeback single Nostalgia, which serves as her first release since she dropped her Brit-nominated debut album For All We Know in July last year. For All We Know was easily one of the best albums of 2016 & it put the music industry on high alert about how good Nao is. In a nutshell, she’s a phenomenal singer & songwriter who’s distinct voice has helped carve a special lane for her. She announced that she was dropping new music today, so I expect her sophomore album to follow via Little Tokyo Recordings before the end of the year. Listen to the fantastic FTOD below
