Fire Tunes Of The Day Featuring JAY Z, Calvin Harris, Tyler The Creator & AJ Tracey

by Olu

Apologies for the lack of posts over the past few days but I’m here to more than make up for it. A huge number of records have dropped between last week Friday & today, so here are my selections from the lot.

JAY Z – 4:44

JAY Z released his long-awaited 13th studio album 4:44 on Friday & it has rightfully received rave reviews from critics & fans alike since. The 10 track album was solely produced by super producer No I.D & includes a response from Jigga to Beyonce’s 2016 Lemonade album, where she sang about his alleged infidelity. It’s incredible to think that Jay can still drop such a stellar body of work at 47, but I’m here for it!  Listen to the Tidal exclusive album here

Calvin Harris – Cash Out Ft. ScHoolboy Q, PARTYNEXTDOOR & D.R.A.M.

Calvin Harris finally released his highly anticipated 5th studio album Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 on June 30th & it’s exactly what I expected it to be….fire! The 10 track album is filled with summer bangers from top to bottom to keep partygoers happy all summer long. We knew the potential direction & theme of the album based on the previously released singles but listening to the LP in its entirety brought it full circle. Cash Out featuring ScHoolboy Q, PARTYNEXTDOOR & D.R.A.M. is undoubtedly one of the standouts from the LP. Listen to the fire tune below.

Tyler The Creator – Who Dat Boy Ft. A$AP Rocky

It’s been a minute and a half since Tyler The Creator released a solo single so this has been a long time coming. The Odd Future frontman dropped Who Dat Boy & 911/Mr. Lonely this past Friday & they serve as his first notable releases since 2015’s Cherry Bomb. Tyler’s been relatively quiet on the music front with his Telephone Calls guest verse on A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes Vol. 1 being his most notable contribution since. However, Who Dat Boy is the perfect comeback record & it showcases all the aspects of Tyler The Creator’s artistry that we’ve grown to love, from the menacing beat to the twisted & outlandish visuals; it’s safe to say that this record has it all. A$AP Rocky also threw in a dope guest verse for good measure. Watch the video & stream the song below

AJ Tracey – False 9

One of my favourite rappers out right now AJ Tracey released his latest single this week titled False 9. The title is a reference to the football position with the same name & was released in collaboration with Tottenham Hotspur for the release of their latest Nike home kit. I’m a passionate Arsenal fan, which means my dislike for Spurs is well known but like I say to my friends from time to time, all I care about is the music & this is one hell of a banger. AJ Tracey has carved up an impressive lane for himself in the game, which was further solidified with the release of his Lil Tracey EP last year. The Ladbroke Grove MC has carried the momentum into 2017, appearing on the Denzel Curry’s Knottyhead remix & Amine’s REDMERCEES Remix, which also featured Missy Elliot. AJ also released LA4AWEEK in June & this latest release suggests that a new project could be on the way. Listen to the song below
