Fire Tune Of The Day: Vic Mensa – OMG Ft. Pusha T (Prod. by Pharrell Williams)

Chicago native Vic Mensa provides today’s FTOD vibes. OMG was released last week Friday as part of a 4-track EP called ‘The Manuscript’. The Roc Nation MC had been relatively quiet on the music front over the past year since the release of his politically-charged ‘There’s A Lot Going On’ EP last summer but he is truly back with a bang. The growth and progression in Vic Mensa’s artistry over the years has been great to see and this EP strikes me as a prelude to a debut studio album, which is the natural next step for Vic Mensa’s career.

The record features a stellar guest verse from G.O.O.D. Music’s president ‘Pusha T’  & uncredited vocals on the hook from Pharrell. Mr. Williams also took care of the production duties on this record & his signature four-count start to a beat is glaringly obvious on it. Listen to the fire tune & check out the Manuscript EP below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: J Hus & Jae5 – Unforgettable Remix

I know there’s been a J Hus overload on this blog but the man of the moment came right back with yet another banger! Mr. Ugly & his go-to producer Jae5 released their official remix to the summer anthem ‘Unforgettable’ last week Friday and it sounds glorious. Jae5 did a great job of merging his signature sound with the original instrumental and J Hus dropped two solid verses for good measure. Listen to the fire tune below and make sure you check out J Hus’ debut album here

Fire Tunes Of The Day: Davido – Fall x Wizkid – African Bad Gyal Ft. Chris Brown

So I’m posting two songs as FTOD today primarily because I didn’t post any tune yesterday & also because I couldn’t choose between the two songs below.

The first featured record is the recently released ‘Fall’ by Afrobeats superstar Davido. The record serves as his official follow-up single to the mega-hit ‘If’ and was produced by OBO’s frequent collaborator Kiddominant. Despite the plethora of hits in Davido’s locker over the past five years, the Nigerian artist is yet to release his official sophomore album but the rollout of his singles in 2017 suggest that an album may be released sooner rather than later. Peep the video (directed by Daps) to Davido’s latest hit below

Today’s 2nd featured song is by afrobeats other golden boy; Wizkid. Alongside Davido, both artists have dominated the genre for well over half a decade & show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. ‘African Bad Gyal’ is Wizkid’s 2nd major release of 2017 after the infectious ‘Come Closer’ featuring Drizzy, which dropped at the start of April. African Bad Gyal features vocals from Chris Brown, who showed off his versatility on the record by embracing Wizkid’s style & singing certain lines in pidgin english. I expect both songs to dominate the afrobeats genre all summer! Listen to the fire tune below

Fire Tune Of The Day: SZA – Doves In The Wind Ft. Kendrick Lamar

Today’s FTOD is by the incredible SZA, who’s already been featured twice on here. SZA’s long-awaited debut album CTRL finally dropped yesterday, June 9 and it is everything I expected it to be and more. The New Jersey native shared 3 singles prior to the album’s release including Drew Barrymore, Love Galore Ft. Travis Scott & Broken Clocks and they all gave an indication of the overall sonic direction of the album. After two listens, I can honestly say that there are no skippable tracks and I’ve decided to highlight one of the standout tunes titled ‘Doves In The Wind’ featuring Kendrick Lamar. Listen to the fire tune and stream the album below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: G-Eazy – Shake It Up Ft. E-40, Madeintyo & 24hrs

Today’s FTOD is by G-Eazy and the title bodes well in the spirit of today’s election – ‘Shake It Up’. G-Eazy has built up a loyal fanbase since the release of his career-changing album ‘These Things Happen’ in 2014. The Bay Area native followed this up in 2015 with the release of his ‘When It’s Dark Out’ album, which has since been certified platinum and includes the massive hit ‘Me, Myself & I’ featuring Bebe Rexha. Shake It Up serves as his second official release in 2017 after Good Life featuring Kehlani, which was part of the Fast & Furious 8 soundtrack album. Shake It Up has such a catchy hook & an unmistakable Bay area bounce to it that will definitely get you grooving. The song has really grown on me massively since it was released just over two weeks ago. 24hrs takes care of hook duties on this one, while Madeintyo & E-4O contributed solid verses to the song too. Peep the video and stream the song below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Not3s – Aladdin

Today’s FTOD is the catchy ‘Aladdin’ by rising London artist ‘Not3s’. He came to prominence in the UK rap circle via his 2016 hit ‘Addison Lee’ and he followed it up in 2017 with a guest feature on Juls’ mini-hit Bad alongside Kojo Funds & Eugy. I have to admit that apart from the two songs listed above, I wasn’t very clued up on his discography but he has my full attention now, with the release of Aladdin. The song is fantastic, especially the hook and the brilliant piano riff that accompanies it. Check out the crisp video, which has garnered over 260,000 via GRM Daily in less than two days & stream the song below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: DJ Khaled – To The Max Ft. Drake

Anyone who knows me personally knows how easy today’s FTOD choice is for me as I am a loud and proud Drizzy fan. I started this blog after More Life dropped, which is why I haven’t featured my favourite artist yet but the day is finally here. DJ Khaled has teased the 3rd official single featuring Drake off his Grateful album on his Snapchat & Instagram throughout 2017 and he finally announced the release date for the record this past Friday. The record samples T2’s 2007 UK hit ‘Heartbroken’ featuring Jodie and sees Drake continue his love affair with sampling British hits of the previous decade, which initially started with the mega hit One Dance, which sampled ‘Do You Mind’ by Crazy Cousins & Kyla.

The initial reaction to the record has been mixed so far but I’m sure this song will be one of the songs of the summer. It’s always refreshing to see Drake expand his sound plus a lot of people had the exact same initial lukewarm reaction when both ‘Started From The Bottom’ and ‘One Dance’ were initially released, so I expect a similar trajectory with ‘To The Max’. DJ Khaled also released the cover to his 10th studio album Grateful and announced the release date for June 23rd. We know the album will feature I’m The One, which peaked at no.1 on the Official UK Charts, Shining featuring Jay-Z & Beyonce and To The Max, which has ramped up excitement for the LP as nobody brings together A-list musicians on a song as effectively as Khaled does. Fire Tune Of The Day: SZA – Broken Clocks

Today’s FTOD is by the incredible SZA. Anticipation for the TDE singer’s debut album ‘CTRL’ has been sky high throughout 2017 and the LP will finally be released on June 9th, which is only 5 days away! The New Jersey native dropped the 2nd official single off the album on Friday titled ‘Broken Clocks’ and it’s a sizzler! I’d even go as far as saying it’s probably one of her best songs ever released alongside ‘Babylon’ featuring Kendrick Lamar. Check out the record below and look out for the album this coming Friday.

Fire Tunes Of The Day: PartyNextDoor – Rendezvous

Today’s FTOD is ‘Rendezvous’ off PartyNextDoor’s Colours 2 EP, which was unexpectedly released yesterday via OVO Sound. The Toronto native has carved out a unique R&B sound, which we’ve become accustomed to since his self-titled debut project was released in 2013. He’s also garnered a massive reputation within the music industry as a superstar songwriter (he wrote Rihanna’s Work *drops mic*). Colours 2 is PND’s first solo release off the year and I won’t be surprised if we get a full album from the Canadian artist later this year. Check out the 4-track EP here and listen to the standout record ‘Rendezvous’ below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Mostack – Explore Ya Ft. Krept

Today’s FTOD is by London MC Mostack. Last month, the rapper announced the release of his High Street Kid mixtape & simultaneously dropped the lead single ‘Ussy Ussy’, which is absolutely fire and was featured on this blog. After a month of anticipation, the mixtape finally dropped today and I really like what I’ve heard after two listens. Explore Ya featuring Krept serves as the standout song at this point as it exudes summer vibes for me. The tune was produced by iLL BLU, who also produced Ussy Ussy. Listen to the fire tune below and check out the High Street Kid mixtape here
