Fire Tune Of The Day: Travis Scott – Butterfly Effect

Today’s FTOD is by my 2nd favourite rapper out right now Travis Scott. (Drizzy will never be dethroned in my books). La Flame had a stellar 2016 after dropping his acclaimed sophomore album ‘Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight’ and dropping fire loosies (The Hooch quickly springs to mind). Scott kept up the momentum in 2017, with features on Drake’s Portland, Migos’ Kelly Price & SZA’s Love Galore to name a few. The Houston native released 3 tracks unexpectedly last night, including Butterfly Effect. Listen to the song below & expect ‘Astroworld’ + his collaborative album with Quavo to drop later this year.

Fire Tune Of The Day: J Hus – Mash Up Ft. Mo Stack

I know I’ve featured J Hus on here quite a few times already but I just had to go with my gut on today’s FTOD. Mr. Hustla dropped his debut album ‘Common Sense’ last week Friday & I’ve listened to nothing else since (barring a few singles here & there). More Life aside, no other album in 2017 has resonated with me as much as Common Sense has so far. Mash Up featuring Mo Stack is my favourite tune off the project so far but that seems to change every day. Peep the song below featuring production from his go-to producer Jae5 & stream the album here.

Fire Tunes Of The Week

With Friday being the universal music release day, a good amount of fire tunes were released yesterday and I’ve decided to highlight a few absolute bangers that dropped both yesterday & recently in general. So here are my picks for today.

Calvin Harris Ft. Future & Khalid – Rollin

So Calvin Harris recently announced the release of his 5th studio album ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1, which will be released on June 30th via his label Fly Eye Records and Columbia Records. He’s already released the sure fire summer banger ‘Slide’ featuring Migos & Frank Ocean and ‘Heatstroke’ featuring Young Thug, Pharrell Williams & Ariana Grande. The DJ/Producer finally released the 3rd single of the album yesterday; ‘Rollin’ and it sounds like a potential summer banger. The song features 19 year old rave of the moment singer Khalid & one of my favourite rappers out, Future. Listen to the song below

J Hus – Spirit & Fisherman Ft. Mist & Mo Stack

Mr. Ugly finally released his debut album  ‘Common Sense’ yesterday and it definitely matched my high expectations. J Hus has carved out his own sound & lane in the UK rap music landscape, with his unique fusion of hip hop, reggae, afrobeats & grime. I’d even go as far as saying that J Hus has his own unique genre. Check out the new album here & listen to two of my standout tunes ‘Spirit’ and ‘Fisherman’ below.

Runtown – For Life

Nigerian afrobeats star Runtown, dropped arguably the biggest afrobeat song of 2016 with ‘Mad Over You’. The song ruled the airwaves in Nigeria & Africa in general in the 2nd half of 2016 and it was impossible to avoid. I personally found the song inescapable when I was in Nigeria over Christmas last year. The artist finally dropped his first release of 2017 yesterday and it sounds absolutely glorious. Check out the record below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee – Despacito (Major Lazer & Moska Remix)

FTOD is a remix to one of the biggest latin songs of all time ‘Despacito’ by Major Lazer & Moska. The original song by Puerto Rican music legends Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee was released at the start of 2017 and the video has already garnered over 1.3 billion Youtube views in 4 months. The video is already the 28th most watched video on Youtube and I can’t remember a latin song being this huge globally since Gasolina (forgive me if I’m wrong). The success of the track was further boosted by a remix by Justin Bieber aka Biebervelli, whose midas touch is already common knowledge to literally everybody.  So here’s another remix, which premiered last week by Major Lazer & Moska. We already know how fire most Major Lazer remixes are, so expect this to ring off over the summer, especially at festival DJ sets. Listen to the song below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker) – Your Time Ft. Kaytranada

Fire Tune Of the Day is by Australian singer Nick Murphy, better known by his former stage name Chet Faker. The talented songwriter released his debut album ‘Built On Glass’ in 2014, which included the Triple J Hot 100 chart topper ‘Talk Is Cheap’. Late last year, he tweeted that he would be recording & performing music under his birth name Nick Murphy, which according to him was the next step in his evolution as an artist. Yesterday, the Aussie native released his first EP as Nick Murphy titled ‘Missing Link’ & the 1st track ‘Your Time’ featuring the incredible Kaytranada on production serves as today’s FTOD. Listen to the song below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Maximillian – Higher

Today’s FTOD is by 18 year old Danish newcomer Maximillian. This song serves as his first official release as a music artist & it sounds absolutely glorious. It sounds like an r&b and pop fused ballad, with vocals that sound more accustomed to singers much older than the Dane. The track was released last week Wednesday via Copenhagen Records. Listen below

Fire Tune Of The Day: Logic – Everybody

Fire tune of the day is by the one and only Logic & features the album title track to his recently released third studio album ‘Everybody’ . The 27 year old Maryland rapper dropped another solid album on Friday (May 5th), which will keep his legion of fans more than happy. The album features Killer Mike, Alessia Cara & J. Cole plus a host of other names. Logic touches on conscious issues ranging from race to suicide on the album, with incredible sonic results. The title track was produced by Logic & his right hand man ‘6ix’. Listen to the album here & check out the FTOD below.

Fire Tune Of The Day: MoStack – Ussy Ussy

Fire tune of the day today is the recently released first single ‘Ussy Ussy’ off Mostack’s upcoming mixtape High Street Kid. The North London MC’s catchy hooks have seen him become one of the most consistent rappers in the scene over the past year. The mixtape drops on June 2nd but in the meantime, enjoy the lead single below

Fire Tune Of The Day: J Hus – Common Sense

Fire tune of the day is by Mr. Ugly himself; J Hus. He released the title track to his debut album earlier today and it’s one hell of a gem, featuring production from his go-to producer Jae5. The 20-year old Stratford MC did not disappoint & in true J-Hus fashion, it sounds like a blend of different genres and exactly what you’d expect from the intro track to a J Hus album. The album ‘Common Sense’ drops next week on May 12th via Black Butter Records and I’m expecting great things from the project. Listen to the title track below & be sure to check out the album when it drops.

Fire Tune Of The Day: Burna Boy – Rock Your Body

Today’s FTOD is by Nigeria’s own Burna Boy. He’s been on a hot streak of music releases since the back-end of 2016 when he dropped the well-received Redemption EP, which included standout records such as Pree Me & Boshe Nlo. Burna has also seen his international profile expand over the past year with editorial features in The Fader & Noisey as well as selling out the Apollo Hammersmith in October 2016 after a 5-year hiatus from the United Kingdom. The Nigerian superstar carried the momentum into 2017 with the release of Hallelujah at the start of February & an uncredited vocal feature at the end of Drake’s Get It Together song off More Life, which was released in March. Rock Your Body serves as his 2nd official drop of 2017 & features production from Juls. Could it be a sign that a sophomore Burna Boy album might be dropping at some point this year?
